Jeff Bridges has recorded a new album of cosmic sounds aimed at helping listeners drift off to sleep.
The double album, "Jeff Bridges Sleeping Tapes," is a collection of ambient noise, instrumentals and Bridges' narration - which, in some cases, achieves Lebowski-esque levels of mellowness.
"So, I hope you dig the sleep tapes," a drowsy-sounding Bridges croaks in the opening. "I hope they, uh, inspire you do some good cool sleeping, some cool dreaming, some cool waking-up."
Bridges recorded the album with composer Keefus Ciancia and partnered up with website builder Squarespace to build a site where fans can stream and download it.
"While working on the 'Sleeping Tapes' album we put in some long hours," the Oscar-winner told The Wall Street Journal.
"Listening back to our day's works, I'd often drift off. I'd wake up and smile saying, 'This stuff works.'"
Squarespace is looking to make some noise with the record; it will be running an ad starring Bridges during the first half of the Super Bowl.
The 65-year-old actor, who won an Oscar in 2009 for playing a boozy country star in "Crazy Heart," has released two singer-songwriter albums in the past.
Proceeds from "Sleeping Tapes," which is also being offered on cassette and vinyl, go to a charity working to end child hunger, the Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry campaign.
