Squarespace Donating 100K to Code.org—A Tech Nonprofit for Women and People of Color

Every year, a more generous holiday by the name of Giving Tuesday follows the highly commercialized buy-it-all-for-as-cheap-as-possible “holidays” known as Black Friday and Cyber Monday. On this day, individuals, organizations and companies give in all different ways, and in the tech world, that’s ranged from a “Hug-A-Thon” hosted by Google+ and Mashable to donations via Bitcoin.

This year, Squarespace is participating in this day of giving for the first time, and they’re doing so in a few ways.

Firstly, the company is donating $100,000 to Code.org, a nonprofit working to make computer science and technical skills more available to women and people of color.

“As a software company that depends on the talent of our engineers to build best-in-class products, we understand the importance of tech education firsthand,” Squarespace founder and CEO Anthony Casalena told the Observer. “That’s why we chose to donate $100,000 to Code.org, a nonprofit whose mission is to expand access to computer science education. We’re thrilled to see the new talent that will emerge from programs like these and honored to play a part in helping shape the next generation of programmers.”

To help raise awareness for Giving Tuesday, Squarespace is also offering all new customers 20 percent off their first Squarespace subscription.
